Josiah - Hi! I bought a 308 and I can't wait till deer season. The pigs are getting fatter. Latin is fun; Greek is a bum. I'm almost done with my history book. It is very hot down here. I'll be 13 this coming Sunday. See you tomorrow!

Levi - I got a 3030 and I can't wait till deer season. I haven't done much Greek or Latin because I've been working at the U-Pick. I finished my Grammar. I'm in the third unit of Geometry. I'm getting ready to plant my turnips. I finally got my Learner's license for driving. See you tomorrow!

Anders - I've been shooting my 20 gauge and I can't wait till deer season. I've done a good bit of Greek and Latin and math. My rooster started crowing. He sounds awful. I miss you all. See you tomorrow!

Teresa - I wish I could have stowed away to Minnesota. I think of you all, all the time. I would love to see you. I've been busy with 4H stuff with competition coming up Saturday in Land Judging, which we've never done before. Keep working! See you tomorrow!

Stennes - I just bought a scope for my 3030 and I can't wait till deer season. The weather is so dry that the weeds are finally dying in my garden. I started some new school books. I'm going to try to plant kale and cabbage this winter. I ordered a big piece of leather and now I'm making sheaths for the knives I have made. See you tomorrow!

Branch - My pigeons had a baby. I've been trying to throw knives correctly. See you tomorrow!

The Girl - I'm trying to finish my math book. See you tomorrow!

Mean Ol' Mama - I start back teaching at the College tonight, so we'll see how that goes. We're trying to find a groove, but we've all been sleepy, so it's hard to wake up and get going. Next week will be better and smoother after our first week back. Once I get past the initial paperwork at the College, things even out a bit. We'll try to be steadier next week. See you tomorrow!

Josiah: We just finished swimming, my garden is doing fine, and we have been playing football. I ordered chickens (bantams - Golden Lace Cochin Bantams), and I have 40 Rhode Island Red chicks. I've done some algebra, Greek, Latin, and I'm almost finished with one of 4 Spanish Bible workbooks.

Anders: I'm working harder on math to review and catch up. I did some Greek and Latin, but I need to do more. I ordered 10 bantam chicks, and they should be here next Wednesday.

The Girl: I have only 4 more sentences in Greek and I'll be in book #5!! I have finished 1 1/2 math workbooks that MOM gave me (I'm waiting on Branch to catch up so we can be on the same pages in math). I have a friend here playing Monopoly with me on this rainy day. I'm going next week with MOM, Teresa, Chan & Michele to Tallahassee to eat in an Indian restaurant for MOM and Teresa's birthday! My rabbit had babies, but they all died, which is okay because she was bred with her own brother. We thought he was a girl, but now they have been separated. I'm going to breed her again this month with one of Uncle Tim's bucks.

Stennes: I've done math and Rod & Staff; I need to write my persuasive essay this next week. My garden is doing well; the potatoes are larger than golf balls. I ordered Buff Orpington bantams, which are very small.

Branch: I only have 6 more sentences in Greek and I'll be in book #5!! I'm almost finished with spelling, too. I'm doing 2 lessons of math each day to catch up. Violin is going well. I have 4 new pigeons, so I now have 7 total. I planted Seminole Pumpkins in my garden.

Mean Ol' Mama: This is a short post, but we wanted to let you know that we're still here and we still love and miss you all. We're trying to get back in a groove now that the competitions are finished and I am pretty well finished at the College until June. We can't wait to see you all when we come up on vacation! We haven't finished writing this month's persuasive essays, but we'll work on them this next week. We've been reading together, and Mean Ol' Mama has been trying not to push push push quite as much. I'll get 'em next week, though...heh heh heh....

Monday, April 12, 2010

Okay, we're going to do a general post for both families. Teresa and Levi are here with us right now, and all the boys are desperately working on their bird journals which must be mailed tomorrow. We have been busy, busy, busy, but not in the books except for reading and bird books (of course).

The Poultry Judging competition for 4H is on Wednesday; bird competition up in north Georgia is next Friday. Between all of this, we're praying that God miraculously changes all of this craziness and busy life into a well-rounded education.

Keep us in your prayers and let us know if you can figure out how to get all the book work done without actually doing it. Hmmmmm........

Monday, March 22, 2010

Thank you for keeping Wilson in your prayers. His sermon went very well. I was more than pleased; I was blessed. The church had quite a number of visitors that day, one of which was my dad's cousin from Texas. He is very liberal and a Unitarian. Wilson's primary text was John 3: 1 - 18. Please keep Rollie in your prayers that his ears will be opened and he will meet Jesus as the living God who came down to bring real salvation and eternal hope to the world and to him!

Josiah: I have done Spanish Bible, and that's about it. We have had a very kee-wonkaduzz week. We're going turkey hunting sometime this weekend. My potatoes are coming up in the garden. I've been doing a lot of cello and some tuba. There were two Indians who saw some smoke signals, and one of the Indians said, "Man, I wish I could talk like that."

Anders: Today I won 1st place in the 4H Cloverleaf Project Achievement. I was in the International category against about 18 other people. I'm glad it's over. The snow is melting here, too (haha, just joking). School was very slow this week because I had to work on my speech and posters.

Branch: My radishes are coming up. Daddy bought us a new ball, but I threw it into the Satsuma tree and it popped on one of the thorns. School was slow.

The Girl: I am learning how to knit and it's fun. School was very slow this week. I'm in charge of the cucumber garden.

Stennes: I made homemade vanilla ice cream tonight. I've been helping Pop paint the house at Georgia. I didn't do hardly any school because I spent most of the week working at G.W. Long's U-Pick farm. My potatoes are coming up, and my new hens should be laying soon.

Mean Ol' Mama: What a week. What a week. Did I mention that we have had a crazy, busy week? School is at a minimum because we're aiming for survival right now. We have a family reunion coming up on Saturday up at Georgia, so there's lots of work to be done for that. Monday the 29th will be Spring Fling, and you all know how much work that is. We haven't even begun the projects! AAAAHHHH!!! What a week. College work is crazy right now but should be a bit easier on me after Tuesday night because one of my classes will be over; I'll be home at 8:00 instead of 9:30, which will be very, very nice. Poppins planted a few veggies today, and it was fun to sit out in the gorgeous weather. Thanks for your posts and keep up the good work in school, etc. We're praying for Wilson's sermon. Let us know how it goes.

Friday, March 19, 2010

Hi every one. This is Wilson. I didn't do much school this week besides a little Math and Science. I have been working on a sermon that I am supposed to preach this Sunday. Writing this sermon gives me greater respect for the pastors out there who write sermons every week. I spent about 22 hours this week on writing a sermon that is supposed to last 30min. I can see why my Pastor is very happy for his small break! I will tell you how it turned out, I am really nervous. Bye! P.S. I also practiced piano and mandolin.

Hi Rachel here, Sorry I have not written in a while. Last week I was sick. I did a few lessons in Greek but not much in Latin. And did a lot in history and a little in Math. Mom said that maybe this spring I can get a bunny, YAY! since my other one died. It was a sad death, but it's done and over with. :( The snow is melting here and there's just a little snow over by the road so that will take a while. Midnight's leg got ran over, but now its healing. (I don't know if they told you guys yet.) Only his tail is broken and I don't think it will ever get better. Well that's all for now. BYE. :)

Kajsa: This week I did a lot of science and a lot of math but not as much as science. I have been doing a great job in piano is what my piano teacher says. This week she told me that I play everything with feeling. I take that as good. She also gave me my recital piece. We will be having the recital at St. Bethany's. I have been practicing the mandolin but I'm not that good. I feel more comfortable with larger instruments.

Rosie: This week I did a fine amount of reading and did some History, and less Greek. Not much Math, though. In piano I am told by my piano teacher that my music is very nice, I am expected to play a recital at St. Bethany's. The snow outside is melting fast, I was allowed to let the chickens out for some time these past few days.

Friday, March 12, 2010

Greetings. The following report is written by Wilson. I read Sergeant York and the Great War. This is a very interesting story because it is actually written by York himself, edited by Richard "little Bear" Wheeler. In the beginning of the book York writes of mountain life from education to turkey shooting. It is pretty amusing. He then writes of two wars. World War I of course is one of them, the other is the war he fought against temptation and Satan. This book has some good values; it also gets a person to value his education a little more. The story is not the only thing about the book that is fun, nor the editor's notes, but it is the grammar and odd spelling that gets me! If you read this book you might even get a different view of Christianity and war. It'll also teach you the fact that you don't need to be a whiz in English in order to write a book...but it helps a lot.

I am very sorry I didn't post last week and the week before, but I have reasonably good excuses which I will write about in a little while. I am still working on chapter 10 in Greek but I have been pretty slow on all my subjects, especially on Language. I'm in Biology now and am catching up in Math. The reason why we didn't post two weeks ago is because we had to leave early for a church program. We (Kajsa, Rosie, Mom and I) were fasting for hungry children for 30 hrs. The reason why we didn't post last week was because I went camping for the weekend and the Girls were too lazy ( Kajsa told me to say that). On the 21st this month I will be preaching a sermon and the Youth Group will help. I hope I won't screw things up.

Kajsa: Hi, sorry we did not post for the past three weeks. I read Gianna. This book is about a girl who was aborted but lived. As a result she has cerebral palsy. It talks about how God uses her life and how she dealt with the ups and downs in her life. I have not been very consistent in Latin or Greek. I used to be ahead of Rosie but now she is ahead of me. The snow is almost gone (YEAY) and we are getting chicks. Wilson is growing a mustache. Rachel is sick so I don't think she will be posting.

Rosie: Sorry I didn't post the past weeks. The book I wrote a report on is Walk The World's Rim, by Betty Baker. This book takes pace during the 1500's. It is about three Spaniards and a slave called Esteban on the journey to Mexico City after thier shipwreck at what is now Florida. During their journey to Mexico City an indian boy named Chakoh joins them and becomes fast friends with Esteban. When Chakoh finds out that Esteban is a slave, he feels betrayed. In the end Chakoh learns that Slaves are not dishonourable, but slavery is. This week I read about Aztecs and did some Greek. I did Math and Geography too, and read in Secret of the Andes. I didn't do any Latin.

Hi there. Rachel is sick and so isn't posting. She has spent the past couple of days mostly sleeping. Sorry we haven't posted in a while...I see Wilson caught you up on what's going on up here. I have been reading quite a bit lately...one of the books I read is The Spanish Brothers by Deborah Alcock. It takes place in Spain during the 16th Century Spanish Inquisition following the lives of two brothers who grow up idolizing the father they never knew. Orphan's, the brothers were raised at their father's estate by their mother's maid and a fransciscan monk. From their youth they were captivated by these words scratched into the window in their father's private study,
El Dorado
Yo he trovado.
They promise that some day they will follow in their father's footsteps to the new world and find their father and his El Dorado.
I learned so many things from this book...I don't want to say too much more about it in case you all haven't read it yet. My understanding of the Protestant Reformation was expanded and I saw the Inquisition as never before. It was historical in many points, although not in the instances of the two brother's who were fictional. This is a "Lamplighter Book" very nicely bound, hence it was a bit of a splurge for me. It was well worth it.
Levi: I have not posted for the past few weeks. I think that I have done a pretty good amount of Greek and Latin, but Mama does not agree. My garden is coming along. I was able to plow the one acre field that my Dad's boss lets me use. That's where I'm planning on planting the three sisters: corn, pole beans and winter squash. Stennes and I got some sugar cane and have already planted it. We hope to make cane syrup in the fall. We took Buckshot and Beef to the cattle auction this week. It's kind of sad not to see them in the field which will soon be home to Caleb's goats.

Teresa: It has been an hectic week for us. Between birding, cowing, goating, chickening, banding and cooking...whew! Notice that I did not put the word "schooling" in the previous sentence. Praise the Lord for the warmer weather! It has made a difference in my energy level. I believe I have been stuck to the heater for the past few months. Spring is in the air!

Saturday, March 6, 2010

Branch: I have been letting my pigeons fly free, and they always come back home. I haven't done very much in Greek this week because it's been a really busy week and the Greek is harder. MOM wants to make sure that I understand what I'm doing before I go much further. I planted collards and peas in my little garden.

ChubChub: I have one hen. I like her. Thank you very much.

Josiah: I planted my potatoes. We weighed one of my roosters and he weighed 16 pounds! I didn't do very much Greek because I am lazy, but I did do a good amount of other school. I bought a pair of cowboy boots, a Smidt work jacket, about 20 butchering knives, and 2 Santa Claus caps (one for me; one for Chub) at a yard sale this morning.

Anders: I didn't do any Greek, so I have a lot to catch up on next week. I'm working on my APA speech for competition on the 20th.

The Girl: I did the same Greek as Branch. I finished my Reader Box, so I get to start on the next box, which is the Box #2. My tea party was fun. One of my friends was a new girl.

Stennes: I finished some of the review I'm doing in Mounce. It's going fine, since I went back to Chapter 10, so I understand it pretty well the first time through the reading. There are 4 roosters and 4 hens that my setting hen hatched; I chose a rooster for Pop of the 4 because his Buff Orpington rooster is getting old and has a cut leg. I think I figured out the rooster I'm going to keep for my own hens, and the 4 new hens are getting ready to lay.

Mean Ol' Mama: We went on a brief field trip yesterday to Birdsong in Thomasville. It was a beautiful day for being outside. ChubChub was excited to see an "Oreo" (Oriole). I've been on Spring Break from the College this past week, so I really have to get on the ball again before classes start back on Tuesday. We've been busy, as usual.

Sunday, February 28, 2010

Josiah: I read A Swiftly Tilting Planet by Madeline L'Engle. The book is about a family of scientists who receives a call from the President on Thanksgiving Day. They are supposed to save the world from a person named Mad Dog. Charles, the youngest son, has to travel back in time to different ages, from the beginning almost to modern time. Exthroi, who represent all the evil in the world, are attacking them and trying to keep them from going back in time to change Mad Dog's ancestor's lives in order to keep the present problem from happening.
This book is really good. You need to read it two or three times to really understand the story.

Anders: I read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum. Dorothy was caught in a cyclone and was brought to the Land of the Munchkins. There she teams up with a scarecrow (who wants to have brains), a tin man (who wants to have a heart), and a cowardly lion (who wants to have courage). They travel together on the Yellow Brick Road to the City of Oz to meet the great wizard who can grant them their wishes and send Dorothy back home to Kansas. The wizard turns out to be a fake, but through their many adventures, each character ends up finding that what they wanted was what they already had. Dorothy returns to Kansas through charmed shoes.
I liked this book and I think that it was a fun read.

The Girl: I read School Days in Disneyville by Caroline D. Emerson. This book was 102 pages long. It was published in 1939. There are many different stories in the book, talking about the 3 pigs, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Pluto.
I liked this book because it was silly and because it once belonged to my Great Aunt Mint.

Branch: I read A Picture Book of Thomas Jefferson by David Adler. This book talked about his life. He liked to read books, too. Each page had a very nice picture. He worked really hard at his schoolwork.
I liked this book because of the pictures. It wasn't very hard to read.

Stennes: I read This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness by Frank Peretti. These two books are about the daily spiritual wars between good and evil, with angels and demons, and ordinary people. Each book talks about a small town that is being overtaken by evil and how a few Christians (and angels) fight against the evil and eventually win.
These books are really good because they helped me "see" what's happening in the spiritual world. These books are not for young children because they can be a little scary (demons, etc.). They are action-packed. They emphasize the power of prayer in the Christian's life.

Mean Ol' Mama: I'm slowly reading through Winston Churchill's The Birth of Britain, and I have enjoyed his good vocabulary and take on history. I've learned quite a bit about Rome's invasion of Britain, which goes hand-in-hand with our current Roman studies.
Remember, March's assignment is to write a complimentary letter. Choose someone, write it, mail it, and post what you did here on the last Friday.

Sorry we're late

Hi all, Rosie here. Sorry I didn't post yesterday. This past week I did seven pages in the Latin Henle book. It was mostly review, I didn't do anything in the Latin's Not So Tough book last week. I did some in Greek last week. I finished two reader books last week and did some math last week also. That's all, bye.

Kajsa: I didn't do a lot of Latin in the Henle, but I did do some review. And I did a few pages in Latins not so Tough. I did Greek last week, sorry we didn't post. I'm not as fast a reader as Rosie is, I didn't finish two reader books. But did do a lot of Math. Today we are going to go door to door to get donations for the Thirty Hour Famine thing that we are doing. It's when we go without food for thirty hours . I got a really cool shirt.

Friday, February 19, 2010

Hi Wilson here. I have done quite a bit in Math. I did a bit in Greek and Latin. I am doing more in my Logic book, and am starting to read A Tale of Two Cities. I am learning how to play the mandolin and am getting better at it than I am with guitar. I know that is not saying much. I will try to do more in my Languages. The church Youth Group are going to fast together and are raising money for children who are starving in other countries. I can't wait to do this but Kajsa's Birthday is the day before the fast so were post poning the cake for a later day.

Hi Rachel here. I did a bit in Math, not much in Latin, alot in Reading, English and History. Our dog Midnight was hit by the van. He broke his leg and tail. Mom has been baking bread and I've been reading or playing. I will try to do more in Latin, Math, History and Greek.
Stennes: I did some of Mounce this week, in review. I also did more Latin and Greek. I practised my flat-picking for Foggy Mountain Breakdown with Levi and I had class, too. I planted seed potatoes this week. Hopefully this cold year won't hurt them. Tomorrow I'm going to work at Mr. Jerry's U-Pick farm, planting more potatoes.

Josiah: I worked more on Algebra this week. I was lazy and didn't practice cello because my teacher was out of town. I'm going to plant my potatoes when it warms up some. I'm learning to crochet.

Branch: I didn't practice violin, either, but I will this coming week. I like my new spelling book. I did more Greek than Latin this week.

The Girl: I did two spelling lessons this week. I did only 1 lesson of Greek. I'm trying to finish my little piano book. I learned how to crochet a little bit.

Anders: I'm learning Foggy Mountain Breakdown in my mandolin class. I've read 6 of Little House books. My hamsters are doing well. I went to the Chinese restaurant last Saturday with Chan for my 11th birthday. I've done some math, cursive, copy book, Latin, and Greek this week.

MOM: A not-too-busy week this time, which was nice. I do have a lot of work at the College, and paperwork always takes so much time, it seems. We're trying, trying, trying. Yesterday we worked on a few character issues, and hopefully that chapter is closed forever. Wouldn't it be lovely if we would all "live each for the other, and all for God"? Trying, trying, trying. We're always glad to hear from y'all up there.

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Levi: I haven't done much Latin lately. Mama says that I have to get more done this week. I plowed my potato patch and I need to get some compost on the plot before I plant. If I have compost and potatoes, I'll try to plant this Thursday. It is cold down here but I enjoyed seeing my first snowfall on Friday.

Teresa: Things are going pretty well down here. Of course, I'm only schooling one why shouldn't it be great?! I don't seem to get much done. We started 4H Poultry Judging practice this past week and it looks like it is going to be very informative. Fun for me! Birding journals and such are going very slowly. I'm not pushing like I should be doing. We'll make it. God is good!

Monday, February 15, 2010

Well, we survived the hour-long "blizzard"! It was fun to see snow in the South.

Branch: I re-started Latin with Mommy this week. I did 2 full lessons in Greek. We're getting ready to plant potatoes.

Anders: I did some Latin and Greek this past week. I'm working on my Reader books more. Today I'm going to Tallahassee for mandolin lessons. We butchered both of our hogs Saturday. Saturday was also my 11th birthday.

Josiah: I read a lot of my history book, I did my copy book and cursive book, some Latin and Greek. Mommy bought us new spelling books and I did one lesson. The hog butchering was fun. I also butchered 3 chickens. We had a bit of snow on Friday.

The Girl: I did the same Greek and Latin that Branch did. I can't wait to use my new spelling book. I'm trying to crochet now. I have about 20 Reader books in Spanish to finish up my Reader Box!

Stennes: We did some Latin together and separately, too. I haven't done any of Mounce the past few weeks, but I finished the other Greek book assignment that we do with Levi. I'm going to work on Mounce this week. I moved all my good kale and cabbage plants into a corner of my garden and tilled up the rest because Daddy's going to try and buy seed potatoes today. I'm almost finished with my 8th grade Reader Box, just 2 books left to go. I put a foot pedal throttle on my lawnmower so it has more power and it's easier to use.

ChubChub is asleep on the couch again! He's growing very quickly.

This week we have a few things going on: lessons in Tallahassee today and the homeschool meeting on Friday. Kind of slow, but that's very very okay with Mean Ol' Mama. We're trying to be more disciplined (can we be???) in school, but gardens are ready to go in the ground, MOM has College stuff to do, we have things to do before Lowell and Clarice's visit next month, etc., etc. We're going to do our best, though!

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Teresa: I'm sorry again about missing Friday's post. We're busy, I think.

Levi: I did very little Greek/Latin this past week, but I was able to do some math. The seeds that I ordered finally came in, so I am excited about planting. We're thinking of butchering the hogs this weekend.

Friday, February 5, 2010

Kajsa: I did not do much Latin or Greek either this week. I've been doing a lot of reading and I'm improving in reading. I got a mandolin from my Uncle Robert, not for keeps just for the fun of learning how to play it. Today we had a thaw in the snow, yeah. Pray that we can get a knew chair for sitting in front of the computer. I keep falling off this old one.

Hi, Rachel here. I did plenty of Greek and reading a little of math and Latin. I too am getting better in reading (and when I mean better I mean faster). I finished the whole book of Florence Nightingale in a week starting from the 1st of Feb. I have been reading a joke book it's a Beetle Bailey joke book and is very funny. The Greek book is really fun; I'm learning sentinces. My new reading book is called Elsie Dinsmore. It has long chapters in it. Well that's all for now. Bye

Rosie: This week I did thirty-one pages in Greek, a few lessons in Math, and not much Latin. I finished a book called The Hidden Hand this week also. I have violin strings and rosin, now. Bye.

Hi! This is Wilson. I am very close to finishiing my science book, I did a little Greek and Latin this week, I also finished my Sergeant York book and a book called Sounder. I will write about the York book in the book report we are supposed to write this week. Mom started reading us a book called the Fallacy Detective, it is teaching us how to find errors in a person's reasoning. Good news! We finally put down the vinyl in the bathroom and even more important, we have put in the toilet! I went ice fishing last Saturday with the Boy Scouts. The fish weren't agreeing with us that day but two scouts each caught a fish, one was a 3 in. perch, the other was a small sunny. My uncle Robert is lending us his Mandolin. I am learning how to play it a little, one thing I learned from the mandolin is how big and clumsy my fingers really are. Bye for now.
Josiah: It's been raining down here. I've been butchering some of my roosters to sell and to eat. I did a bit of Latin and Greek this week and I'm trying to finish my history and science books. I just bought 6 goldfish.

Anders: I did some Greek and Latin this week, but not much. Better next week. We're going on a hog-butchering field trip tomorrow, which should be interesting.

Branch: I did 3 lessons of Greek this week. Next week I need to finish a lot of my Reader Books. My pigeons eat a lot of food.

The Girl: I did 3 lessons of Greek, too. It would be nice to finish my Reader Box, but I still have 61 books to finish, mostly Spanish. I'm going Thursday to a local nursing home to learn how to crochet. That will be fun.

Stennes is up at the Shop, and ChubChub is asleep on the couch, so they won't be posting today.

MOM is going to give words of sage advice from first-hand experience at the College this semester:

1. LEARN YOUR ENGLISH GRAMMAR AND BASIC WRITING SKILLS WELL, AS IF YOUR HAIR WERE ON FIRE!!!!! Enough said.
2. Ditch the bad attitudes. Very, very quickly and permanently
3. Do your work well and honorably. Sloth is NOT a virtue; it's a cancer that destroys you.
4. READ READ READ and THINK THINK THINK. Again, enough said.
5. Get your life 100 % lined up with God. The life of a sinner is MISERABLE and HAUNTED.
6. Life is hard. Life is harder when you're stupid and choose to stay that way.

Yep, it's been a challenging week. Gotta find a balance for us, Becky. Pray for me, that I would remember: I am Mean Ol' Mama.

Remember, we'll be posting book reports the last Friday of this month, so choose a really interesting book that you would like to share with all of us. Moms included.

Summer is Finally Coming
The luscious green grass is gleaming
The wonderful sun is beaming
The Makers of Honey
Are working while humming
Oh, Summer is finally coming
Wilson Vave
Hi everyone. This is my poem, I wrote about some things I remember about summer. I did more school this week then last week, I am almost done with my Science book. I am almost done reading about Seargent York and what he did in World War 1.
You Took Me In
I was a beggar on the side of the street,
with ragged old clothes and nothing to eat.
Longing for love,
Suffering from wrath,
'til you took me in
and showed the path.
I stunk and I was filthy,
But you washed my feet.
Though I had nothing.
You gave me food to eat.
You are the Shepherd
and I was the lamb,
that stayed away from your hand.
You came and you found a trap stuck onto me
and cut the wires off. You set me free.
Kajsa Vave
Hi. We just got back from a Blue Grass concert. It was fun. I also saw some friends. I wrote this poem to show how we are like when we don't have Jesus.
My friend showed me a little skit on YouTube were his son has a Jesus button and whenever he needs help he just pushes the button andJesus comes and helps him. I write a poem for each month for our church.

Sunday, January 24, 2010

Hello, Wilson here. I didn't do much school this week on account of our bathroom; it broke. I did do a little bit on most of my subjects like Latin, Greek, Math, Science, Reading and music. In music I learned three new songs: Singing in the Rain, Minuet in F and The March of the Gladiators (that is a clowny song). Those songs are abridged, it will be a while until I can play Minuet in F.

Hi, Rachel here. I did a lesson in piano. And a two lessons in Greek. I didn't do much in Latin. I'm almost done in my Doctor Dolittle Book. I'm learning a new position in Piano, the G major. Well that's all for now. Bye

Kajsa: I coudn't make it to piano practice because I was sick, so I practiced at home. I'm learning to play Star-Wars, and I learnerd how to play The Entertainer. My favorite song to play is the Polovitian Dance. I'm also practicing guitar. I'm learning a new song called Day by Day by DC Talk. Judy and Robert are back from Arizona. When they were gone we took care of their cat named Otis. He is like a dog. He like to be petted back and forth so that his hair is all messed up. He also loves company.

Rosie: At piano lessons I learned how to play Once in Royal David's City, Take Me Out To The Ball Game and some other songs. Mommy ordered my fiddle books, and I am practicing Amazing Grace.

Hello all. Sorry this is so late this week. We are still working on that bathroom! Some of us have been a little under the weather. Tomorrow we will be starting the Fallacy Detective together (yeah).

Teresa: Well, we missed it last week because I was writing about tortoises and Longleaf pine. This week we're on the ball! I would love to see you all.

Levi: I had a banjo lesson in Tallahasse on Monday and I'm learning "Sally Gooden." I like playing the banjo. My favorite song to play is "Foggy Mountain Breakdown". I'm still playing trumpet in the band and I'm adjusting to my braces. I should get my rattrap out this coming Monday, so that might help me play better. We were able to get the tractor going so that I could plow my big garden plot.

We thought y'all in Minnesota might enjoy seeing this picture. Josiah is in MOM's chair, talking with Wilson on the cell phone. The kids sure enjoy hearing from all of you, and they were really excited to listen in on the conversation.

Hi there! We had to go offline when the kids were writing and then I was having trouble saving what they wrote when we got online again so I tried publishing instead and that worked. Rosie and I will write now...and hope we can finish a bit quicker this time! Well, we have been having an interesting week. The week before last our toilet got plugged and it was not an easy fix and took several days. We were sure it would be good for a long time, but last Sunday it inexplicably clogged again so Dad decided he'd have to go get a new toilet as this one has never worked very well in its 15 years. When he pulled out the old toilet bowl he found that some of the floor boards were rotting. So we pulled up all the vinyl flooring and found it had been glued over a really nice hardwood floor...which is no longer very nice because the glue is not coming off. We tore out the rotting boards and rotten subfloor...and one discovery led to another until now we have pretty much gutted the whole room including tearing down the plaster and walls on the South and East sides to put in insulation. We had been thinking of what we should do to that bathroom and were not planning on doing anything until summer at least. As Wilson said as we were demolishing the 80 year old plaster, "All because of a plugged toilet." One last comment, if you can bear the topic any longer, when Dad came with the new toilet Wilson carried it in from the car and read the description and comments on it. It said "The choice of professionals." Of course Wilson immediately wondered, "Professional at what!?" That's my boy. Oh boy.

Hi all, Rosie here.
Sorry I didn't post on Friday. Last week I did nine pages in the Latin Henle book, however it was mostly review. In Reading I finished Call it Courage. I did one page in Greek, and two lessons in Geography and one very long lesson in Harvey's Grammar. Outside the snow is very sticky. That's all, bye.
Well, we're a day late and a dollar short again, but we're here now! MOM has been busy trying to find the ever-changing, vanishing "groove". Hopefully each week will be a better balance of College/life/home/school/kids/gardens/animals/cooking/goals/etc. MOM's new quote: If at first you don't succeed, keep pretending 'cause you've got everyone else fooled. LOL...

The Girl: I did not do Latin yet because MOM doesn't quite know what we're going to do next. I'm starting back in Latin tomorrow. I worked on Spanish Bible this week and math and Greek.

Anders: I did a bit of Latin, but MOM has a lot on my checklist for this week. I did about 48 pages of my Spanish stuff, some math, and about 3 pages of Greek. I sold all of my chickens.

ChubChub: I go every day for 1 hour to Georgia school with Teresa and Levi. I built a sand castle in the sand pile.

Josiah: A bit of Latin. Mucho Spanish pages. Bit of math. Nice amount of Spanish Bible. We're eating 2 of my roosters for lunch today.

Stennes: I did a bit of Latin. Still no Greek. I worked on an engine this week. I did a good bit of Spanish grammar, some English grammar, and the normal stuff.

Branch: I did some Greek, no Latin yet, and Spanish work. I bought a digital camera from Daddy and I have been taking lots of pictures. I haven't gone fishing hardly at all, but we all have new tennis equipment and we have been playing tennis every chance we get. Mommy or Daddy takes us to the tennis court.

That's our week in a nutshell. I guess that makes us the nuts! We'll see you all here next week.

Hi, this is Wilson. This week I made a goal in Latin to make it to reveiw 1 in the Henle book, so now I understand it much better. I also completed a module in science this week, I just need to complete 3 more modules until I can take Biology. I finally have my Algebra book, it came in the mail this week, along with my science equipment I will soon be using. I still have to finish with my Keys Geometry book 7, but I am almost done with that. I am also almost half done in my reader's book.

Hey All Rachel here, I did a lesson in Latin (it was long). I just got my Greek book level 3 its going swell. I did a lesson in Math and finished The Best Chistmas Pageant Ever and am now reading Doctor Dolittle's Tale.Docter Dolittle is a great book. Well thats all for now.Bye.

Kasja: Latin was harder to do than Greek. I did memorising, translating, and copied some declentions. My reading book this week was called Gianna. It talks about abortion. It was warm today we had sticky snow! Unfortunaly we didn't go outside to play in it. Hopfuly we can tomorrow. We are re-doing our downstairs bathroom. I'm not sure what it will look like.

Monday, January 11, 2010

Sorry about forgetting to post. I wrote it on the list so that we wouldn't forget, but......

Levi: I completed about five pages in my review Greek book this past week. I need to do more. It's been cold this week and I've had to break ice off of the chicken, cow and pig water 4-5 times a day. I have planted rye in my potato patch to add nitrogen to the soil and help stop erosion. I just pulled up all of my turnips. I made about $90 selling turnips the past few months. Caleb's goat, Trixie, keeps jumping the fence, so if he isn't home I have to go catch her and try to get her back in the fence that Anders and Diggy helped build. I'm looking at seed catalogs trying to plan my gardens for this year!

Teresa: Things are busy here. You would think that schooling just one would be a breeze, but I can't seem to get anything together. Between Monday class in Tallahassee, Tuesday singing 3 times, Wednesday picking up Ms. Mae in Tallahassee, Thursday band in Tallahassee... Well, I've figured it out! I haven't been home to get anything done. This week is looking better. Except for the fact that I'm leaving Thursday and won't be back until Saturday. I have to go to north GA to write a curriculum about the Gopher Tortoise. We've been birding some this past week. Bird journals need to be started for the upcoming bird competition. We're also going to try our hand at Poultry Judging this year in 4-H. Pray for us all!

Anders here: This week I did about 5 pages of Greek Review. I had my first mandolin class in Tallahassee. I finished my Eng. science book and 5 reader books.

Branch: I finished the first 9 lessons in Hey Andrew 4. I have to remember a lot now. I finished about 6 reader books and a few lessons of math. I'm going to release my pigeons to fly in the spring and hope they come back to me. We have had ice on the water outside the past few days. Teresa said it might snow a bit down here, but Daddy says that it would probably melt quickly if it did.

Josiah: I did 12 pages of Greek this week. There's been an owl coming to my chicken pen and it has killed 3 chickens. I can't wait till the weather warms up so we can plant potatoes.

Stennes: I'm doing badly in my Greek. I didn't do any at all this week. Some animal ate my cabbage and kale, so I'm going to put a rabbit fence around my garden. I'm making a big compost pile for when I plant potatoes.

The Girl: I am in lesson 9 of Hey Andrew 4. I need to work more on Latin. I have 2 new rabbits. They eat a lot. I have a whole big box now of craft stuff for me to stay out of trouble when I'm not doing school. I can't wait until we have another tea party.

Mean Ol' Mama: This has been an extremely challenging week for me. I have had so much paperwork, etc. to finish for the College. My first 2 classes were Thursday, and the first class is packed with 28 students who need TONS of help, so I'm going to be earning every penny this time.
I'm disappointed with how little we did in school this week, but it was hard to go from 8:00 - 8:00 on the computer and expect the kids to accomplish much on their own. They finished up a bit of reading, but instruction time from me was almost non-existent. Hope to do better next week.
The cool weather has been quite a change for us down here, and I have enjoyed wearing long sleeves for a change. I did a good bit of grocery shopping yesterday (from a very long list) in hopes to make teaching 2 nights a week more "logistically friendly". Supper has to be ready before I leave, so I'm trying to avert disaster any way I can. There's still a bit on my list to purchase, so perhaps today I'll finish it up.
I'm thinking we'll go back to the kids' checklists for schoolwork, so they can know what needs to be accomplished each day before they're "done". Any bit of structure at all is very beneficial for our crazy family, you know.
I have to give some thought about Latin for Branch and The Girl. I think I'll do what we talked about, Becky, and do a combo of Latina Chritiana with slow, easy Henle. We'll see.
Thanks for your good posts, kids. You're an encouragement to us down here.

Kajsa: I'm almost done with my Greek book. I don't remember how many pages I've done. I set goals for myself. Some days are better than others, the more I do the the better my attitude is (sometimes). This week I read a book called Follow My Black Plume. It's about a Boy named Mark and it is based on Garibaldi and the making of the Italian nation. In Math my goal is to do at least two lessons a day. I'm practicing guitar every day. One time I practiced so hard that I got a blister on my middle finger. It's gone now and I have a huge callous. We have three feet of snow and it is rarely above zero degrees. Today we went winter clothes shopping. After school I do research on the sun.

Hi Everybody! Wilson here. I have been working harder at school this past week. In Greek I will be taking the second review, I have completed chapter exercises 8 and 9. Greek is hard, but it isn't as hard once you understand your lesson! I also completed the book The Prince and the Pauper and the play Our Town this past week. I have started on an interesting book called York and the Great War. A few subjects I want to work even harder in are Logic, Latin and Geography. Before I go I want to tell you some stuff I recieved for Christmas: RISK the board game, a How To book on comic strips and a dart game. Bye

Hi, Rachel here. I did thirteen pages in Greek. Mom ordered my 3rd Greek book and I can't wait until it comes. I will learn and study but go through it fast. I read in my reading box Dear Mr. Henshaw and I'm reading The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. I did a lesson in math and History and English. I also did alot of dishes this week. Well, that's all for now.

Hi all, Rosie here.
This week I did seven pages in my Hey Andrew! book, and one page in my Greek Bible copybook. I did one page in Geography and two pages in English. For reading I read Sebastian Bach and The Pushcart Wars and now I'm reading Call It Courage. In Latin I did four pages, and in Math I did four pages. That's all for now, Bye.

Rebecca: Hi there. Thanks for the call and also for this wonderful plan...we need the accountability. I'm so glad to say I have been able to order some of the books we've been needing and they should be arriving soon. We had fallen off of our Memory Box time and I'm planning on getting going with it again. We missed piano this week due to the weather, but yesterday we got the piano tuner out and so that is sounding much better. The kids enjoy practicing on it even more. I've started back with helping Robert a few hours a week while Judy is at work. We are keeping busy...and trying to keep warm!
